From Making Collars To Hiring Them: The Story of Jobspire

Ever heard a startup story that was just too good to be true? Facebook. Uber. Snapchat.
Zuckerberg comes to mind. With his tech-savvy skills that he mobilized to build the hottest social site on Harvard.
Brace yourselves, for we bring another hot venture story to you.
A hot, Indian, venture.
This tale chronicles the audacious journey of Jobspire, a startup founded by three college students in India. Disillusioned by the monotony of their services company, which made t-shirts, websites, and products for people, Varun Mayya, the founder, and his friends Kartik and Sandesh craved a challenge. Their target? Disrupting the recruitment industry dominated by Naukri.
Soon - in early 2014, Jobspire, a one-of-a-kind platform, was born. Connecting those in need of jobs to those hiring, matching the mutual interests and skills of the parties involved.
Their story unfolds with raw honesty. The thrill of the initial idea, the camaraderie of a young team, and the sheer grit required to make it work. They faced numerous hurdles – from convincing a potential co-founder to leave a secure job offer to enduring the physical and mental toll of relentless work.
A literal panic attack even forced Mayya to re-evaluate his approach. Sandesh, initially a novice, transformed into a full-stack developer through self-learning. They strategically leveraged incubators and mentors to gain crucial exposure and guidance. Their relentless pursuit of excellence led them to hone their skills.

Success for them finally arrived with Nikunj Jain, an investor who recognized their potential and passion. The initial investment fueled their growth, propelling them to new heights. They successfully raised the first round of seed funding, cashing in a whopping Rs. 1.7 Crores.
Soon, they relocated to Bangalore, a city offering a more vibrant ecosystem and a welcome change from Delhi's harsh weather. They set up their new office by themselves, and got to work.
In 2017, Jobspire was acquired by a NewYork-based private technology company, ‘JustCode’, for an undisclosed amount.
This shows how different things can turn out once in a while - when you take the road less traveled.
Jobspire's journey isn't just about financial rewards. It's a testament to the power of camaraderie and unwavering belief. They built a company based on shared dreams, overcoming challenges with unwavering support for each other.
The craziest part? - None of the founders have their college degrees yet.

Three lessons you can learn from Jobspire’s success:
Tech Stack Flexibility: Founders showed the importance of flexibility with tech stacks, learning and adapting to new technologies like Ruby on Rails. Being open-minded and adaptable is key in tech tool selection.
Rapid Prototyping & Iteration: They utilized agile methodologies to iterate quickly based on feedback, which was crucial for successful tech development.
Resourcefulness & DIY: They demonstrated resourcefulness by creatively solving technical challenges with DIY approaches, such as building makeshift desks and video rigs using available resources.
